The Advantages of RSS for SEO by Adam Sorensen
RSS? What the heck is that? Well, RSS is an acronym for two titles, Really Simply Syndication and Rich Site Summary. I prefer Really Simple Syndication myself. RSS allows you to post blogs, articles, news etc on your site and makes that content availabe to other websites, or in other words it makes your published content available for syndication. Other websites will need to have a news reader, something that will display news feeds in order to display your content. I presonally use zfeeder for posting news feeds. It’s free and works great.
Anyway, back to RSS. So why is RSS good for SEO? Well, I’ll give a few reasons why. First, Google loves blogs. I’m not sure all the reasons why Google loves blogs, but I think a lot of it is that blogs have focused theme related content. And if Google wants to supply relevant search results, blogs are a good place to get content.
Second, RSS can syndicate your published content. Now this is cool because of the extra traffic you’ll get from other sites, but I especially like it because it gives you one-way backlinks. And if you know Google, they love one-way backlinks.
Third, RSS content creates site volume. When Google’s spider comes back to your site it likes to see some new content. With new and changing content Google’s spider will come back more often.
Forth, your RSS blog can supply in-site backlinks. In-site backlinks don’t give as much weight as backlinks from other sites, but they do help. So you want to make sure you place links in your blog back to your homepage or other pages that you want to increase link popularity to.
Fifth, it’s just a cool way to go. I know that’s not a good SEO reason, but users will give your website more respect knowing it’s using the latest technologies.
