Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 update by David Hickenbotham
Apparently IE7 will not be much more compliant to the W3 standards, especially the CSS1 standards, than IE6 currently is.
Needless to say, that will not make it very easy on the designers and developers of web pages, who hope that their product will work in 99.9% of the population. With Mac and Linux gaining market share little by little and Firefox gaining in leaps and bounds, I am starting to get vague recollections of the days when every site had a “best viewed with IE” and “best viewed with Netscape” logo on them.
Or are they nightmares?
Now, I enjoy the competition as much as anyone. Who can forget the nice browser wars between Netscape and IE that brought us free browsers? Or the meteoric rise in cool features that IE had because it was trying to steal the market share from the juggernaut known as Netscape.
I’m probably not in the minority among web designers and developers when I dread the compatibility issues that are being thrust back upon us.
Can’t we all just get along?!?
But I’m probably not in the minority either when I say that a little competition might be a good thing again. It seems like nothing has really changed since IE5.
Firefox and Safari have been a couple of breaths of fresh air.
So with that thought, I say to everyone, “Bring on the multi-browser, multi-platform testing! We’ve had it too easy for too long. Features! Features! Features!”
