Link Building and Link Trading Tips by Adam Sorensen
Here’s a list of link building and trading tips that will help you in the battle for top ten SERPs. There is no particular order here.
1. Make a link directory on your site with categories relevant to your industry and only trade sites within those categories.
2. Build you link pages with PHP or ASP so you can easily manage your links with a database.
3. Don’t use pagination on your dynamic link pages. All pages should end with .php or .asp not .php?page=1.
4. Definitely put a search box on your link directory. Link traders hate trying to find their link.
5. Submit articles to article submission sites, preferably, articledashboard.com or powered by articledashboard.com sites. I found over 300 hundred of these sites so it’ll give you a good start on your one way backlinks.
6. Submit your site to GOOD directories ie. Yahoo DMOZ etc. This can get you a lot of one way backlinks, but try and avoid all the spammy link directories out there now. Also watch out for link directories that don’t give you a real hard backlink like this site http://www.web-designers-directory.org/. You’ll notice that all the backlinks have a nofollow on the links.
7. Make sure you get some sort of linkchecker for your link directory. I have traded with thousands of sites and have found that a whopping 25% try and cheat you in some way.
8. Don’t delete your link directory to get one way links. This may work in the short term, but will never work in the long term as more and more link traders get linkcheckers.
9. Be honest in your link trading. I have a number of high-ranking, high PR sites, when a link trader cheats me on one site I take them off my other sites, and let other link traders know about it. Again this may work for a while, but is definitely not a good long term strategy.
10. It is with great reservation that I mention this one= At one time linkmarket.net was really useful for finding link partners now about 90% of the link requests I get are from spammy sites that try and cheat me on links. Hopefully linkmarket will make the necessary changes to prevent this.
11. Be courteous in your email requests and also let traders know if you accept their link trade and where you have placed their link. It is also nice to let link traders know why a site was declined, ie. if the page that they placed your link is not indexed yet in Google.
12. Triangle trades are good, but it is critical that you are able to manage these well or you will get taken advantage of. Also, make sure you check the IPs on triangle trades. You don’t want to send out a number of links and only be getting back links from a number of sites on the same IP.
13. Create a blog on your site so you can syndicate RSS content.
