If You Trade Links, Definitely Watch Out For This by Adam Sorensen
If you’re trading links to increase your link popularity, it’s not enough that you check your link on the page, check to make sure there’s not a nofollow on your link, and check to make sure your link is not built with javascript, now you have to watch out for this too. Google’s Cache.
I have received more and more link trade requests that have my links placed on a page that is not indexed in Google. Sure they’ve reciprocated a link, but if I want any weight from my backlink it must be in Google’s cache. Again, and this is getting really annoying, a number of webmasters are bent on cheating on backlinks.
Word of warning: If you have a linkchecker that spiders the page your link is on to see if your link is there, this is NOT enough. You must check Google’s cache to see if your link is in Google’s cache. If your page is not being indexed you are getting no value from Google.
Lavaball is currently building a link trading system that has a comprehensive linkchecker that addresses Google’s cache. It will also allow webmasters to facilitate and manage every trade, reciprocals, triangle and one-way trades. Until it’s done, I would highly recommend checking Google’s cache for your link. You can do so like this: Just type in “site:www.domain.com/pagewhereyourlinkis.html” into Google’s search box. If nothing shows up, let the trader know that the trade is pending until the links page is indexed in Google.
