Teaching is one of the hardest arts. The saying “those who can’t do, teach” is completely false. There are hundreds of brilliant professors, but there are very few who would be labeled as a great teacher. Either brilliant people don’t understand why we are not as smart as them and so therefore have a hard time dumbing down their lectures, or they are just not good at sharing information only absorbing it. Nonetheless, it is clear that genius and teaching ability are not correlated. Teaching is more than being able to fire out the material lecture after lecture, a great teacher also has to be able to empathize and see where a student is coming from.
