Every year around Christmas and birthdays, millions of people are stuck with the same decision, gift card or actual present? There are pros and cons for each. Gift cards are the safe play. They are better than cash because it forces the person to actually spend it at a shopping place, whereas with cash they may spend it on gas or groceries, and what is the fun in that? However, gift cards could be viewed as lazy, which is why you should never give a random gift card to a girl/boyfriend or spouse. On the other hand, an actual present is risky, either the person will love it, or it will never be used by the person and viewed as not thoughtful.
