Learning a language in college can be extremely difficult. The goal of high school languages seems to be to expose you to the language, whereas colleges are looking to try to get you to read, write, and speak fluently. It is nearly impossible to be fluent in a language unless you are completely immersed in it. That is why three days a week foreign languages classes in college really will never be able to meet their goal. I never took a language in college, but have learned Spanish on my own by using various computer programs to lock down the vocabulary and syntax, then trying to communicate with native Spanish speakers.
