It is unacceptable for a man to get his girlfriend or wife a gift card for her birthday, their anniversary, or any other special holiday. Gift cards scream, “I don’t know you well enough to get you something original” or “I lack the creativity to buy you a real present.” Fortunately there is one exception, and that is a gift card to a spa. The gift card to a spa can be thought of as a ticket to take a day off and relax. It is still a real present because it is more specific than a gift card to Macy’s or something. Perhaps it could even be given as a package of lotions and what not. Regardless, don’t ever get someone you deeply care about a gift card, unless it is for a spa.
